LES DEVOIRS: First round of "Au Revoir Les Enfants" Vocab: find meaning of words. Write up a FRENCH definition. Nous avons discuté de ce que nous ferions ce weekend. Quelques nouveaux mots de vocabulaire qu’il faut savoir : s’intéresser à : Je m’intéresse à la biologie. C’est… vs. Il/Elle est Elle est journaliste. [She is a journalist.] vs C’est une bonne journaliste [She is a good journalist.] penser DE … s’agir DE… (it’s about) Causative FAIRE Tells that you had something done. J’ai coupé mes cheveux = I cut (my own) hair. J’ai fait couper mes cheveux = I had my hair cut. Tom Fersen’s “La Chauve Souris” song: verbs/meaning/listening. les devoirs: Listen to his song on YouTube. Listen to his pronunciation several times. Make pronunciation notations on your song page. Practice singing the song along with him. This will help your pronunciation as well as your speaking speed. Aujourd’hui, nous avons terminé la leçon qui vise comment identifier si un mot est masculin ou féminin. Nous avons discuté du nouveau vocabulaire et les expressions idiomatiques que l’on trouve dans la chanson “La chauve souris”.
Nous avons discuté de nouveaux vocabulaires en français. Vous avez commencé à donner vos propres définitions aux mots. les devoirs : Photocopie de la chanson « La chauve souris » : Conjugate the verbs correctly. You have to figure out the general meaning of the song before you can figure out which tense to use. Work on understanding the general idea of the song with the vocabulary we covered and the expressions. Resist the urge to look things up online. You will learn the vocabulary better this way. Note to all: You MUST come to class prepared or your grade will suffer on a daily basis. This course does not run like French III. If you did not do the work, you cannot participate properly and participation counts for a lot. We cannot rely on 1 or 2 people to get us through the work. Should the lax approach to HW continue, there will be consequences which will do more damage to your grades. Do your work, or the class must by default become less you and more straight out of the book. We have reviewed the COI & COD: what they are, where they belong in a sentence and how to use them.
1. They go BEFORE the conjugated verb. 2. In the Passé Composé, they go before the helping verb. Remember: the past participle AGREES with a COD, but not with a COI. 3. If there are 2 verbs (one conjugated, one infinitive) the COD/COI goes in front of the INFINITIVE -- and you certainly do not make agreements with an infinitive. Make sure you know the "candy corn" organizer. It tells you which COD/COI comes before which in the case of doubling up. Ex: I gave them to her. Je les lui donnés. les devoirs: Write a 8-line conversation (min) in which you cram in as many COD & COI as you can. Make it interesting/funny, and go out of your way to use COD/COI. Nous avons fait notre café des artistes! C'était fantastique! Vous avez fait un bon travail! Je suis fier de vous et de vos efforts!
les devoirs: Write Un Cinquain -- a poem, about un tableau impressionniste. Soyez créatifs! Be sure to have a color picture and the title of the art. Bring in HILLSTEAD form & $30 check (CRHS activity fund) Today 7 Impressionist artists spoke to us about their lives and their art. You should have taken notes on each artist.
les devoirs: Prepare for Cafe Time, bring 5 of your tableaux and think of question to ask your fellow artistes! Today I handed out the assignment sheet for your impressionist presentation. I will link that assignment sheet when I'm at the right computer. Creativity is important--- but not at the expense of substance. Make your artist INTERESTING to us. What is important to understanding him/her? Why does the legacy that exists for "you" exist? Be prepared to ASK QUESTIONS when your classmates are presenting.
http://www.artic.edu/artaccess/AA_Impressionist/index.html Email questions that arise, naturellement. LES ARTISTES: Edouard MANET Claude MONET Edgar DEGAS Berthe MORISOT Pierre August RENOIR Vincent VAN GOGH Toulouse-LAUTREC We had a guest speaker today, Madame Ennis. She presented a wider history of art. She discussed the Salon and it's importance to the history (and selling) of art. There was a lot of information here, not all will be needed for study.
les devoirs: Etudier pour une interro sur l'Impressionnisme + Choose your artist! 1. Vous avez eu une discussion basée sur vos devoirs: les Impressionnistes. These types of discussions will be a part of our normal class as the year progresses. Madame will NOT participate in these conversations. How they run will be entirely based on VOUS, pas moi. My role will be as an observer, and note-taker. I will be taking notes on grammar issues for later discussion and your individual participation level: your efforts to actively engage in conversation and your efforts both to maintain and advance the conversation with questions and commentary will influence your grade. Unless I indicate that I am listening for the use of a certain grammar point, I am not (initially) grading you on the correctness of your grammar. Prepare yourselves to ‘be’ your artist in a café scene for this Impressionist unit. We will work collaboratively to refine a rubric for this and other such conversations.
2. We did some gargling and kkkkkkkk-ing to work on our French “Rs”. This sound feels unnatural for us to make, but the more effort you put into practicing it, the better it will sound. This is one of the top two sounds to master as an English speaker to sound more “French”. (The other is the French “u”.) Répétez! Répétez! Répétez! http://french.about.com/cs/pronunciation/a/mistakes.htm and a humorous but helpful http://www.wikihow.com/Fake-a-Convincing-French-Accent-- note the “ummm” info: It’s TRUE! 3. Madame’s PowerPoint tried again NOT to appear, but thankfully her daughter was home and resent it. I presented the major ways that Impressionist art differs from that which preceded it. You should have taken notes supplementing those you already took from the article. I will post this PowerPoint once my presentation is complete. Les devoirs: Start thinking about which artist you would like to “be”. Degas and Berthe Morisot have been “dibbed”. LUNDI: Guest speaker: Madame Ennis. Come prepared to be attentive, take notes and ask questions!!! NOTE: I forgot to RE-collect your answers to the Impressionist reading. HAND THEM BACK INTO ME ON MONDAY! |
